I pushed to:

Renovate... downtown streets and complete the American Tobacco complex. Thanks to public/private agreements with Capitol Broadcasting Co., this thriving, award-winning campus offers new jobs to 3,600 employees and has also stimulated adjacent development;

Utilize... the hotel/motel occupancy tax (and not taxpayers’s funds) to construct the 2,800-seat Durham Performing Arts Center (opening in 2008);

Convince... City Manager Patrick Baker to add more police officers and to hire a new Police Chief outside of the department;

Expand... home ownership opportunities to lower income citizens with our Eastway condo/housing complex and Hope Six program;

Pass... a $110 million bond that will help repair our streets, sidewalks and parks; enhance the Carolina Theater and Museum of Life and Science and address deferred maintenance.
